To see a fox…
Dear Friends and Family of Eagle Heights Baptist Church,
Thinking back across the years I can remember only a few times that I have caught a glimpse of a fleeting fox moving through the headlights or the corner of a field by day. Their stealth and speed truly make it rare for one to see them. You realize they are there-but where? Foxes in the scriptures do not have such a great reputation.
“So he went out and caught three hundred foxes and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch to every pair of tails, lit the torches and let the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves.” Judges 15:4-5
Sampson’s talent is rare as well. To catch three hundred foxes and tie them must have took some time and tenacity! To pen them and keep them until he gathered so many and then to tie a slow-burning torch…sending them down the hills into the fields of dry Philistine grain beats the best thing you’ve sen on TV in a while. What a great loss to the Philistine farmers to lose their fall harvest. Sampson is a man full of resentment taking vengeance. Defeating the enemy of God is one thing-unbridled hate and anger is another. A man or woman at peace with their Lord and themselves is quite another. Remember, the little foxes spoil the vineyard. The soft easy choices to relinquish to this world and it’s master become disasters in time.
Blessings,
